Reagan is a place where a diversity of people, cultures, languages, believes, knowledge, perspectives, ideas, and backgrounds are united. This is inspired by the Olympic Flag, MPS and IB logos. Planning/ Sketches & Experimentation
This is a note that I took from the presentation about designing a school flag. I learned about the five basic principles of flag design. This presentation gave me an idea to create a basic and simple flag that could be reproduced by a five-year-old kid. This is because I want a flag that we can easily see and memorize.

This is a mind map that I created after researching about MPS, IB and Reagan. Creating a mind map helped me to narrow down my thoughts, to focus on the main points, and have a better understanding of the topic.
|
I created similar designs but with different positions, arrangements, and colors to see what is more appealing.

Process
First, after making all the sketches, I chose the best one that I thought would really represent Reagan. To start this piece, I created four horizontal lines to create an equal sign. This equal sign is to emphasize how we all are treated equally regardless of our race, ethnicity, background, cultures, etc.
The third step was to color the background using light blue Colored Pencil. Light blue is used for the background because colors blue and white are colors that MPS, IB and Reagan has in common. They are also Reagan School colors which we all are familiar with and I think it is like a foundation.
|
The second step was to draw three circles using a compass between an equal sign. Using a compass helped me to draw perfect circles. The circles represent MPS, Reagan, and IB. The reasons why an equal sign surround what is in the center is because when you love someone, you open up your heart and make room. Just like this, Reagan school open up its heart and make room for every person to feel welcome and to belong in Reagan's community.
The fourth step was to color the circles using a little bit of orange to bring out the color yellow. I used yellow to represent how IB, MPS, and Regan work very hard to grow and develop better educations, and environment for everyone. Circles also symbolized how Reagan is made up of a variety of people, race, backgrounds, cultures, languages, different perspectives, ideas, thoughts, dreams, and goals. It is very important for us to be respectful, and open-minded to others. It also represents unity.
|
The fifth step was to cut a foam board using the reference that was provided with an X-Acto knife and cork-back metal ruler. I made sure to lightly mark where things should be cut and place with a pencil.
This is the final image of the flag.
|
The sixth step is to spread a glue using spray glue on the back of the image. Then placed it on the board.

Reflection
Critique
I am happy with the final image because it is very simple and straight forward. I think everyone can recreate this flag just by using their memories. I think this is successful because I only used three basic colors: blue, yellow and white. I am sure a little kid could look at this image for five seconds and reproduce it from a memory. The design of the flag is simple, use meaningful symbols, and no letters or seals are included. However, there are a few challenges that I faced during this process. The first challenge that I faced was drawing perfect circles. I used a compass to help me to draw perfect circles and being patient is the key. Another challenge was cutting the board. Making a straight line while cutting the board with a knife was very difficult. I had to be patience and cut is slowly so the ruler doesn't move that much. If I could change one thing, I would re- cut the board because the edges are not perfectly straight.

The theme around my inspirational research is to bring peace and unity of the world.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
I made an inference that Antarctica is excluded and South and North America combined as America since the flag only has five circles.
